Spring’s September Food Writers Festival Line-Up

Speakers at Food Writers Festival

Monday 3rd September – Kay Plunkett-Hogge
Monday 10th September – Skye McAlpine
Monday 17th September – Rosie Birkett
Monday 24th September – Olia Hercules

An extension of the restaurant’s popular set of talks ‘The Salon Series’, which sees like-minded individuals engage in discussions on topics close to Skye’s and Spring’s ethos, the festival will involve a different writer headlining every Monday throughout the month. Here the writers will discuss their love of recipes, writing and the inspiration behind their latest works.

Taking place in Spring’s bright foliage-filled Salon, the talks will commence at 2pm and will include a light afternoon tea and selection of house-made cordials and soft drinks for guests to enjoy alongside the lively discussion. Lasting around two hours, the intimate event will include readings from the author’s books, a discussion surrounding the author’s chosen topic, before opening the floor to a Q&A.

The Food Writers Festival will commence on Monday, September 3rd with acclaimed writer Kay Plunkett-Hogge, author of a multitude of drinks and food books including ‘The Art of the Party: Drinks and Nibbles for Easy Entertaining’ (Mitchell Beazley, 2018) and Adventures Of A Terribly Greedy Girl(Mitchell Beazley, 2018) Kay will be discussing her memories of food from growing up in Bangkok, which has provided inspiration for her upcoming book Baan: Recipes and Stories From My Anglo-Thai Kitchen (Pavilion, Spring 2019).

Skye McAlpine, writer, journalist, Instagram influencer and author of popular blog ‘From My Dining Table’ will be headlining on Monday, September 10th. Skye’s latest book ‘A Table in Venice’ was released earlier this year and tells the story of her life in Venice and offers an insider’s perspective on Venetian home cooking. Skye, who has called Venice home since early childhood, will be exploring with guests her close relationship with this famed corner of Italy.

Monday, September 17th will see food writer and author, TV presenter and cook Rosie Birkett entertain the Salon with her culinary musings. Based in Hackney, Rosie’s debut cookbook ‘A Lot On Her Plate’ was published in 2015 to critical acclaim and she was named a rising star by The Observer the same year. Rosie will be discussing her most recent book East London Food – a love letter to the East End’s burgeoning food scene. She’ll be talking about her experience of being a food writer in London over the last decade, how the food scene has changed, and how her childhood in Kent fostered a life-long love of food and cooking.

Finishing off the line-up will be Olia Hercules, Ukranian chef and author of ‘Mamushka’ and ‘Kaukasis’ who will be discussing her love of the food of Eastern Europe on Monday, September 24th. Focusing on the region of Caucasus, the vibrant area bridging Europe and Asia and incorporating Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Iran, Russia and Turkey, Olia will be discussing her experience growing up in Ukraine and what inspired her to shed light on the food of this little-known culinary region.

Tickets for each event in September at Spring’s Salon will be priced at £35, including all refreshments, and are available to purchase here.
